Sixteen Years in Captivity
I never understood just how important a human soul could be to God. The soul is the only thing we actually own and the only place I belonged.
I was raised by a single mother, and she loved God with all her heart.
So many times, we would fall asleep to the sound of gunfire. Out of this chaos, God chose me. I fought against Him and His will for so long. Every time I knocked down by life and Satan, God and all His love would stand me up again, stronger than before. I sought acceptance through friendship, and many of those friendship proved dangerous and destructive to my soul. I went on to fight in the Iraq war and for a country that never wanted to accept me. I saw the horrors of war and then returned to the never-ending horrors of gang violence, drugs, and poverty. I knew something had to change, and it had to start with me, giving God my soul and my love.
Not every preacher speaks the will of God. Each of us has the power of the Spirit to reach out and help our fellow man. We must look outside of ourselves and our community and help all our brothers and sisters in need.
My hope is that this book serves as a testament to the mercy and love of God and the power of Jesus and the Holy Spirit. All of us as believers have access to the gifts God has promised to us. Let us use them to bring glory to the name and power of God. Amen.
Ephesians 2:5
That even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.
Ephesians 3:18-19
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Excerpt
"I would run, get ready, and sit on our front porch, waiting for him. He never showed up. Many times, I sat on that front porch and cried. After a while, I just stopped believing in him. How could anyone treat their own child this way? I had never asked to be here, and I had never wanted to be treated this way. We lived on a dead-end road. I had a bike, and I used to love to ride it by myself up and down our road. One of those days, I ran into trouble and had my bike taken from me. The day that my bike was destroyed, some kids and I were playing, and I got on my bike and tried to run over another kid. I was chasing that kid like a lion chasing a gazelle. Everyone was screaming and yelling because they all thought I was about to hit him. Needless to say, I was in lots of trouble, and I lost my beloved bike."
